Rhythm & Hues pursues pix
Visual f/x house taps Glaubke to develop projects
|
In his new post at the Marina del Rey, Calif.-based facility, Glaubke will work closely with Deborah Giarratana, R&H's veep of motion pictures to develop relationships with writers and producers.
Idea is to produce pics with strong visual f/x or computer-generated characters (Daily Variety, Dec. 15). Company is planning to announce a series of co-production deals for its slate of six or more in-house projects in the coming weeks.
Similarly, rival f/x studio Digital Domain is prepping its own in-house projects to build a library to generate revenues in the years to come.
Both Glaubke and Giarratana report to R&H feature film division prexy Richard Hollander.
Wily dog pic
Glaubke is already working on the studio's fully computer-animated pic "Armour Star," about a wily ranch dog who goes up against human hunters, animal predators and wilderness dangers to catch the fastest armadillo in Texas. It was written and is being helmed by vet R&H animator Bill Kroyer ("FernGully: The Last Rainforest.")
"It's a development exec's dream come true," Glaubke told Daily Variety of the new post. "You're in an environment with all of these great graphic artists that enable you to conceptualize as you develop. It helps the director and helps the project. It saves money, time and overall benefits the project.
I was going to get a job as a producer at a studio or production company, but when they pitched me what they want to do, I was immediately attracted to them. They give me a lot of rope to explore and get things going. It's the blend of the creative and visual what said, this is right for me."
Prior to Village Roadshow, Glaubke was an assistant for Kathleen Kennedy of Kennedy-Marshall Co. and was an assistant to current Village Roadshow senior veep of production Matt Bierman while at Disney Pictures.
"We're thrilled to welcome David, who brings a well-developed talent for evaluating material," Hollander said. "His experience at Village Roadshow is a tremendous asset that fits well with our goals. He has excellent creative instincts that will be particularly helpful in finding material to suit our needs."
R&H recently created visuals for "Stuart Little," "End of Days" and "Battlefield Earth" and is finishing work on the upcoming "Bedazzled," "Little Nicky" and Arnold Schwarzenegger's "The Sixth Day."
