Thursday night at the Westwood preem of Columbia Pictures' "Loser," helmer Heckerling said, "Times were much freer when I made 'Fast Times.' It was the early '80s, a last breath of freedom before the AIDS epidemic broke out. Today I have to be much more careful; ratings boards are harder to please now."
Star Jason Biggs also found similarities with her previous pics. "It is ironic that I am in a Amy Heckerling film. When we shot 'American Pie,' constant 'Fast Times at Ridgemont High' comparisons were made. Who knew a year later I would be working under her direction."
Mena Suvari said working with Heckerling and producer Twink Caplan is "how working relationships should always be. Amy and Twink make it a point to keep close contact with their casts way beyond the production of a film."
Present at the pic's post-screening bash, held at the Westwood Brewing Co., were pic co-stars Zack Orth, Tom Sadowski and Jimmi Simpson; Columbia honchos Amy Pascal, Gareth Wigan, Jeff Blake, Mel Harris, Kenneth Lemberger and Bob Levin; and guests Drew Barrymore, Stacey Dash, Andy Dick, Shannon Elizabeth and Tom Green.
