Pacifica, Simmons wear comic 'Sable'
De Souza to pen adaptation of actioner
Created by Mike Grell, the "Freelance" comic was an action-adventure serial about Jon Sable, a former Olympian, war vet and African game hunter who lives in Manhattan and splits his time between mercenary assignments and writing children's books.
Simmons, who recently produced "Detroit Rock City," will produce "Sable" with Hollywood-based Pacifica, which is backed by the Intl. Media Fund.
"Freelance," which ran for 56 issues between 1983-1990, was previously adapted into a short-lived 1987 television series, "Sable," which starred Louis Van Bergen and featured Rene Russo as Sable's girlfriend, Eden.
Simmons brought the project to Pacifica chairman Moritz Borman and VP development Chris Dubrow.
Chicago-based Kenneth F. Levin & Associates repped Grell and comic book publisher First Publishing. Simmons represents himself in all negotiations.
De Souza, whose credits also include "Die Hard,' "Die Hard II" and "Commando," was repped by the William Morris Agency.
