Laff cabler tooning up breakdance show
Bua's 'Urbania' looks at breakdancing, phone sex
The cabler has ordered two scripts in addition to the completed pilot for "Urbania" from Justin Bua.
Set in a fantastical urban locale, skein follows the life of 4'10" Squatty, who breakdances at bar mitzvahs, and his buddy Juisto, a phone sex operator.
Bua, a classically trained painter whose poster prints are staples of dorm room walls, also boasts a 12-year career as a professional breakdancer. He used to do graffiti, too, he says.
"It's a visually arresting show. Justin is a fine artist and a very established one," said Comedy Central senior veep for original programming Debbie Liebling, one of the creative execs overseeing the show.
Bua is creator-exec producer and artist for the show. He voiced 12 characters in the pilot and will share voicing duties with his writing partner, standup comedian Jason Andors.
Liebling says the project is still in development and has not received the go-ahead to be scheduled as a series. If it does get the greenlight, the show could be ready for an early 2001 debut, she says.
Bua is repped by law firm Pierce, Gorman and the William Morris Agency.
