Goldstein replaces former laff topper Gene Stein, who earlier this year informed CBS brass that he would leave the network exec biz at the end of the season. Stein is expected to announce his next venture shortly.

Formerly CBS' No. 2 comedy exec, Goldstein will now oversee all comedy development at the web, shepherding sitcoms through the entire pilot process. She reports to CBS Entertainment topper Nancy Tellem.
"This well-deserved promotion recognizes Wendi's invaluable contributions to the many successful comedies she helped develop and nurture," Tellem said. "Her instinct for smart comedy along with her solid relationships with producers and writers makes her the ideal executive for this key position."
Keen eye for comedy
Goldstein has been involved in the development of several of the Eye's linchpin laffers, including "Everybody Loves Raymond," "Becker" and "The King of Queens." She was also a key player in developing the net's new crop of fall comedies, including "Bette!" and "Welcome to New York."
After joining CBS in 1990 as a staffer in the current programs department, Goldstein was upped to manager of comedy and drama series development in 1992. A year later, she took over as associate director of comedy; by 1997, she had risen to VP of the department.
Before inking with the Eye, Goldstein held down a gig as senior copywriter at Beantown-based BBK Advertising.
