NBCi to serve up reviews of eateries

Zagat's content to be featured on Snap.com

NBC Internet, the San Francisco-based online arm of the Peacock web, is climbing into the restaurant business, pairing up with Zagat.com to offer reviews of local eateries.

Although financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, NBCi is likely to have taken a stake in the company and will split advertising revenues with the privately held dot-com, whose parent Zagat Survey is best known for its restaurant review guides.

Under terms of the deal, Zagat.com's content will be featured on NBCi's newly created Restaurant Center portion of Snap.com.

New section, to be folded into NBCi.com's relaunch later this fall, will become a part of the portal's Interactive Neighborhood, a local Internet content site that NBCi offers to NBC-owned and -affiliated TV stations nationwide.

Deal marks Zagat's first content deal with a major Internet portal and broadens its revenue possibilities by enabling NBCi members to purchase Zagat Surveys, including its bestselling guides to restaurants in 45 cities worldwide; guides to hotels, resorts and spas in the United States, guides to food and entertaining resources for New York City and Los Angeles; and a guide to New York City nightlife.

Zagat is backed by funding from General Atlantic Partners, Microsoft founding chief technology officer Nathan Myhrvold, MIT Media Laboratory director Nicholas Negroponte and investment banker Nancy Peretsman.
