As this observation had the ring of truth to it, at the Sunset Room after-party the talent behind the HBO hit about single women in Manhattan were asked to divine the show's inner meaning.
"It's about women on the verge of a nervous breakthrough. It's optimistic, but dangerous," said co-star Kristin Davis.
"It's about being emotionally explicit. It's about wearing your heart on your handbag," said exec producer Michael Patrick King.
"It's about validating being single as a lifestyle," said creator Darren Star.
"It's about my now owning six pair of Manolo Blahnik shoes," said co-exec producer Jenny Bicks. "Since working on the show I've become taller, chicer and walk far less comfortably."
"It's about trying to stay optimistic about love despite all evidence to the contrary," said co-exec producer Cindy Chupack.
Among those on hand to decide the show's meaning for themselves were HBO's Chris Albrecht and Carolyn Strauss; stars Davis, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon, John Corbett, David Eigenberg and Kyle MacLachlan; plus guests James Woods, Brad Krevoy, Donna Langley, Joanna Gleason, Alicia Witt, Taylor Negron and Glenn Hedley.
