His first time in China, Schwarzenegger acted as the torch-bearer for the ceremonies held for Chinese special athletes on Saturday.
The Hollywood actor was introduced as “the ambassador of our movement” by Special Olympics CEO Tim Shriver.
Schwarzenegger later told Daily Variety that this was the first time all of his movies were shown in China and the first time that they would be shown on Chinese national television.
As for the current thawing of trade relations between the two countries, Schwarzenegger said that this event demonstrates just how much “China is opening up.”
Schwarzenegger added that the entry of China into the World Trade Organization will “open a new arena for opportunities for videos to be sold” and “for foreign films to be released in cinemas,” as well as a chance “for Chinese actors to gain recognition overseas.”
The deal between the U.S. and China calls, among other things, for a minimum of 40 Hollywood pics per annum to be released within China in the first year and 50 pics by year three.
The mini fest includes seven Schwarzenegger pics, beginning with “Terminator 2” and proceeding with “Predator,” “True Lies,” “Jingle All the Way,” “Twins,” “Commando and Eraser.”
Ending his remarks in Beijing Saturday with “I’ll be back,” Schwarzenegger left the crowd of athletes and fans cheering.
