Fathom backs Fort fest

Parasol to co-sponsor; 'Wings,' 'Midlife' get promo push

With Blockbuster bowing out as the Fort Lauderdale Intl. Film Festival’s title sponsor, the Fathom Motion Picture Co. has become the fest’s primary financial backer.

Fathom will provide about 80% of the overall fest financing; funding entity and fellow Floridian production company Parasol Films will provide the rest.

Fathom prexy Craig R. Marquardo expects the sponsorship to kick off a major PR campaign for Fathom, which currently has two pics, “Vegas Wings” and “Midlife,” on its development slate. Producer Steven A. Jones (“Wild Things”) is attached to direct “Midlife,” and “Swingers” helmer Doug Liman is being pursued for “Wings.” Company also recently pacted with producer John Davis on five upcoming pics including “The Horsemen” and comedy “Revolution Now.” Thesps Mira Sorvino and David Arquette will topline the latter.

Fest, now in its 15th year, will take place Oct. 12-Nov. 16.
