"It's a very exciting time in the music industry," Schnapp said. "New technology and traditional marketing and promotion techniques are coming together and creating new opportunities for the artists and labels alike. I'm thrilled to be a part of this revolution."
At EMI Records, Schnapp was veep of A&R and veep of rock and worked with talent like Queensryche. Previous to that, he was director of metal/rock marketing and promotion for Epic Records, where he assisted Pearl Jam, Rage Against the Machine and Alice Cooper.
In addition, Schnapp founded Schnappland Entertainment in Gotham, where he provided marketing and consulting services to bands including Fun Lovin' Criminals and Long Beach Dub All Stars.
San Diego-based SpinRecords.com allows independent and unsigned talent to upload music to its Web site for distribution. Its execs describe it as a hybrid between a traditional label and a service providing Internet-only plays.
"I believe the experience that Schnapp brings to Spin Records will not only make its hybrid model a more compelling contender out there, but it will provide invaluable guidance for all our bands and a welcome seasoning for the A&R efforts of Spin Records," said Wayne Irving, prexy and CEO of SpinRecords.com.
