Minghella enters Miramax' 'Heaven'

Pic first in a trilogy of scripts

CANNES -- Anthony Minghella will produce "Heaven," which Tom Tykwer is directing for Miramax Films.

The pic, which will star Cate Blanchett, is the first in a trilogy of scripts by the late Polish director Krzysztof Kieslowski. The other parts are titled "Hell" and "Purgatory."

Miramax co-chairman Harvey Weinstein noted Minghella's involvement during a public head-to-head with Variety editor-in-chief Peter Bart at the Variety Pavilion on Monday.

Minghella recently joined Sydney Pollack as a partner in Mirage, which is about to move from a second-look to a first-look relationship with London-based Intermedia Films. It is unclear whether Minghella's role in the Miramax film will be though or independent of Mirage.
