Vincent D’Onofrio and Emile Hirsch have inked to star in Initial Entertainment Group’s “The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys.”

Pic’s star, Jodie Foster, will produce with partner Meg LeFauve under their Paramount-based Egg Pictures banner. Jay Shapiro’s Cinema Go Go will also produce. Trilogy Entertainment’s John Watson, Pen Densham and Guy McElwaine will executive produce with IEG’s Graham King, and Tim Harbert will co-produce.

Set in Savannah, Georgia, in a parochial school during the 1970s, pic tells the story of several eighth-grade altar boys who plot to regain an illicit comic book after it is confiscated by a martinet of a nun (Foster).

Pic marks the debut of helmer Peter Care.

D’Onofrio (“Men in Black,” “The Player” “JFK”) will play Father Kavanagh, a parish priest and soccer coach. He’s also appearing in this summer’s Lions Gate release “Steal This Movie” as Abbie Hoffman and opposite Jennifer Lopez in “The Cell.”

Emile Hirsch, best known for a recurring role on “ER” as well as for supporting work in the telepic “Houdini,” makes his feature debut as one of the altar boys.

D’Onofrio’s deal was brokered by Ken Christmas and Endeavor. Hirsch was repped by manager Sam Maydew at Pop Art Entertainment.
