Carlton, TF1, Kirch, Mediaset to develop online content

LONDON — Carlton Communications, French broadcaster TF1, Germany’s Kirch Group and Italy’s Mediaset are reportedly in talks to co-develop TV programming and Internet content.

This could mean that @lliance, the existing Internet joint venture between Carlton and TF1, will be expanded. The 50-50 partnership was set up last December with initial capital of 100 million euros ($89 million).

A Carlton spokesperson described the venture as "the start of a beautiful friendship" but would not confirm that any other media groups are looking to come on board.

A key purpose of @lliance is to serve as a point of contact for U.S. companies looking to enter new media in Europe. The venture also invests in Internet rights and businesses.
