Televisa delays Web bow

Debut held off by technical difficulties

MEXICO CITY — The launch of Televisa’s Internet portal, esmas.com, has been delayed following technical problems.

The Web had hoped that the first pages of the Spanish, Portuguese and English portal would be up and running beginning April 30 but has encountered problems with its computer system.

The site, aimed principally at the Mexican market but also at the rest of Latin America and the U.S. Latino community, is now expected to go online page-by-page by the middle of the month.

Televisa in February became the last major Latin American media player to unveil its Internet plans. The site will face competition from a host of other portals targeting the crowded Latin market, including the Microsoft co-venture T1msn.
