Femme portal buys indie shingle Amazon
Combo to develop film, TV, online projects
The company will be led by Amazon Films producing partners Brendan Shepherd and Sarah Reid. The first two Web projects undertaken by the company are "The Estrogen Files" and "Flea Market Divas."
"We started out producing feature films and we started thinking about the Internet," Shepherd said. "We were looking for somebody to merge with and when he heard about ShesGotNetwork we thought it sounded great."
Shepherd and Reid will promote "The Estrogen Files" during Cannes and will shoot a documentary of their experiences that will be shown daily on ShesGotNetwork. In addition, the duo will hype ShesGotEntertainment’s first feature film project, "Welcome to Da Nada," which is slated to star Yasmine Bleeth and will be helmed by Deran Sarafian ("Terminal Velocity.")
"Since we started this company a year ago, we have met so many people who said they could help us find funding but then things fell through," Reid said. "(ShesGotNetwork) jumped in so quickly."
Previous to founding Amazon Films in 1999, Shepherd worked at Buena Vista Home Entertainment. Reid worked in production for Universal and United Artists. ShesGotNetwork is headed by Jayne Newell-Lanza, who is also the publisher of Profit Magazine.
