• How would you rate the quality of the film product today?

  "You can still feel the quality, but not the width. The good films are just as good, although it may be true that there are less of them."

• What is the impact of the Internet on your business?

  "Not a great deal yet, but it's going to happen. Certainly, the information flow is faster and more detailed. We can't wait for the revolution to arrive. Less travel, less festival hype."

• What is your advice on keeping cool in a bidding war?

  "Call the office back home for a reality check."

• What is your favorite dealmaking spot in Cannes?

  "The lawn in front of the Grand Hotel -- possibly the only place where relative sanity prevails in Cannes."
