AMC honors femme film with Streisand special

'Reel' opens series, Swank and Sarandon to appear

American Movie Classics will kick off a 10-hour film series dedicated to women pioneer filmmakers on May 30 with the premiere of "Reel Models: The First Women of Film," a documentary special hosted and exec produced by Barbra Streisand.

Co-exec produced by Streisand's Barwood Films partner Cis Corman and directed by Emmy-winning producing team Susan and Christopher Koch, spec will profile Oscar-winning scripter Frances Marion, directors Lois Weber and Dorothy Arzner and French helmer Alice Guy.

In addition to Streisand, Hilary Swank and Susan Sarandon will appear in interstitials between the femme-helmed films.

The seven-film series will follow "Reel Models" and will include "The Sewer" (1911), "Algie the Miner" (1912), "The Hypocrites" (1915) and "Pollyanna" (1920).

AMC reaches 71 million homes.
