'Spoils' spots Meyer
Writer in negotiations to helm indie feature
Produced and financed by Belgian producer Paul Breuls, the film is expected to go into production in the fall.
Pic concerns one of the biggest jewel thefts in history. At the end of WWII, two renegade American army officers, living it up in the abandoned Hesse family castle in Germany, stumble upon a princess’s jewels and decide that to the victors go the spoils.
Meyer recently completed the two-part miniseries "The Great Bridge" for CBS. He also wrote "The Zero Solution" for Interscope, to which Dominic Sena ("Gone in Sixty Seconds") is attached to direct. Meyer is writing "Shibumi," based on the Trevanian novel, for Warner Bros. On deck is "Sudden Fear" for MGM and helmer John Woo.
Meyer is best known as the director of event telepic "The Day After" and as writer of "Star Trek II," "IV" and "VI" and director of "II" and "VI." He also wrote and directed "Time After Time" and penned such films as "Sommersby" and "The Seven-Per-Cent Solution."
Roose wrote the original draft of "Collateral Damage," which has subsequently been rewritten by Peter and David Griffiths, among others. Pic is in pre-production at Warner Bros. with Meyer exec producing and David Foster as well as Bel Air Entertainment producing.
Meyer is repped by Alan Gasmer at the William Morris Agency and attorney Alan Hergott at Bloom, Hergott Cook & Diemer. Roose is also repped by WMA.
