Rashad gets 'Real' hosting gig at Par

Sportscaster takes show into fifth season

NBC Sports commentator Ahmad Rashad will join Paramount's syndicated strip "Real TV" as host, beginning this fall with the show's fifth season. The move was expected (Daily Variety, April 17).

Rashad replaces John Daly, who has hosted the all-video, caught-on-camera series since it began. Sources have indicated that Par in recent weeks has been fishing for a higher-profile personality to host the show.

"Ahmad's winning personality appeals to both young men and women alike. He will elevate the stature of the program and will take 'Real TV' to the next level of success," said Bobbee Gabelmann, exec veep of current programming for Paramount Domestic Television.

Rashad will continue as exec producer and host of NBC's "NBA Inside Stuff" and will do nightly interviews for NBC's Olympics coverage this fall.

"Real TV," which is produced by RTV News and distributed by Paramount Domestic Television, has earned an average season-to-date national household rating of 2.3.
