Chen, Soule, Avitia new appointees
Chen will be based in Beijing and report to William Pfeiffer, Columbia TriStar’s exec VP and managing director for Asia.
Chen will oversee all the sales activities of Sony’s produced and acquired programming throughout China while establishing programming and distribution opportunities within the region. Fluent in Mandarin and English, Chen comes to Sony with a solid background in government affairs and sales.

Dick Soule is joining Columbia TriStar Intl. TV as senior VP for international ad sales. He formerly served as VP of ad sales for MTV.
Soule will be responsible for furthering CTIT’s ad sales performance around the world. In addition, Soule will be charged with development and implementation of global ad sales strategy in conjunction with the regional sales managers. He will be based in New York and report to Jon Petrovich, CTIT exec VP for Intl. Networks.
Soule started at MTV in 1995 where he launched MTV Asia with 30 advertisers onboard.

Javier Avitia has been upped to VP, business affairs, for the international TV division of the Paramount TV Group. Avitia moves from the domestic TV division where, for the past three years, he has served as senior attorney.
In his new position Avitia will focus primarily on licensing issues, output and library deals, and the integration of the Spelling TV and Rysher Entertainment libraries into the Paramount Intl. TV library. He reports to Sue Akens, senior VP, business affairs, of the division.
