Exec to take reigns of Entertainment, Communications and Media sector
Shapiro and his team will be responsible for evaluating and launching new projects.
“I am pleased to announce Henry’s promotion to vice president of business development,” said Glenn Rogers, executive vice president of the ECM division. “We have plans to grow aggressively by expanding our core print properties and through acquisitions, new product launches, joint ventures and strategic alliances in both traditional and new media.”
Based in Los Angeles, Shapiro has served as general manager of ECM’s Variety Group since joining Cahners in December 1998. Before that, Shapiro was a founding partner at Meigher Communications (which published Garden Design and Saveur, among other titles) and served as the company’s chief financial officer and operations manager. Prior to Meigher, Shapiro was an investment banker in the media and communications group at Lehman Brothers and, previously, at Chemical Bank. He has an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Reporting to Shapiro will be Monique Fayad, director of interactive strategy and business development, who joined Cahners in January. The New York-based Fayad was previously a management consultant in PricewaterhouseCoopers’ entertainment and media corporate strategy practice.
The ECM division produces 18 publications and Web sites for Cahners, including Variety, Daily Variety, Variety.com, Publishers Weekly, Broadcasting & Cable, Multichannel News and Wireless Week.
