Teens power 'God' to win in timeslot
Animated laffer rates 14.42 mil viewers in post 'Friends' spot
The show, which nine small-market NBC affils refuse to air because of its religious depictions, drew timeslot-winning scores of 14.42 million viewers, a 7.3/19 rating in adults 18-49 and 8.0/23 in adults 18-34. In each category, "God" dropped about 30% from its "Friends" lead-in.
The show did best among teens, retaining 91% of its "Friends" lead-in.
As a result of the preemptions, which included stations in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Boise, Idaho, NBC's clearance for the half-hour was 96%.
The Peacock web gave "God" the primo post-"Friends" slot to allow more viewers to sample the show prior to its launch Tuesday in the tough 8:30 time period. There it will face another animated laffer, Fox's "Family Guy," and ABC's "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire."
"God," which features James Garner as the voice of God, Alan Cumming as the Devil and French Stewart as Bob, is a Carsey-Werner production. NBC is pairing it on Tuesdays with "Third Rock From the Sun," which will kick off the night at 8.
