Carr will helm 'Hoedown'

Pic to focus on urban-rural culture clash

Helmer Steve Carr ("Next Friday") is attached to direct "Hoedown" at Sony's Columbia Pictures.

Pitch, purchased for a low-six- against mid-six-figure sum, was brought into the studio by former Col production execs Lauren Lloyd and Walter Hamada. The two are now at Disney-based Morra, Brezner, Steinberg and Tennenbaum.

Management company The Firm will likely produce the pic and may assist with producing what will probably be a hip hop-heavy soundtrack.

"Hoedown" is the story of a down-and-out rap star who, pursued by unfriendly creditors, holes up in a redneck country town. Chaos ensues when he must surmount a myriad of cultural differences by bringing his urban sound and sensibility to the town's performance venues.

Pic will be scripted by tyro scribe Doug Krintzman.

Sony's senior veepee of production Lori Furie is supervising the development and production of the pic with Col creative exec Shannon Gaulding.

Carr is repped by CAA. Krintzman is repped by Paul Kohner Inc.
