'Yards' wins by a nose in Presidents Day B.O.

Pic totals $15.9 million for 4 holiday weekend

Warner Bros.' "The Whole Nine Yards" eked out a Presidents Day weekend B.O. win over Sony's "Hanging Up," according to Tuesday's final studio tallies.

The Bruce Willis mob-edy totaled $15.9 million for the four-day frame, about $200,000 ahead of "Hanging." It's Warners' first weekend win since the Christmas release "Any Given Sunday."

No. 3 with a bullet was Paramount's "Snow Day," which beat all rivals on Monday thanks to the school holiday. Pic finished with $15.3 million, half a million better than the studio's Monday estimate.

Though "Nine" didn't come close to a Prexy Day record, the overall B.O. of $133.4 million did set a new mark. The previous high was $130.3 million in 1998, the year of "Titanic" and "The Wedding Singer."

Actual totals for the rest of the top titles pretty much agreed with estimates, though Miramax's "The Cider House Rules" finished No. 10, leaving Warners' "The Green Mile" out of the top 10 for the first time since its Dec. 10 bow.
