'Family Man' scribes set redux at Col

Wick set to produce comedy

NEW YORK -- In a deal with a high-six-figure guarantee, "Family Man" scribes David Diamond and David Weissman have been hired by Columbia to write "One Too Many," a comedy inspired by the 1940 comedy "Too Many Husbands."

Original pic, starring Jean Arthur, Melvyn Douglas and Fred MacMurray, concerned a woman who takes a new husband after the old one drowns, only to find the first guy wash up alive. Doug Wick is producing the as-inspired-by version, with Col exec Amy Baer shepherding the comedy.

Diamond and Weissman, who wrote Beacon's Nicolas Cage starrer "Family Man," which helmer Brett Ratner is now shooting, are making a good living off the old work of MacMurray: They're also writing an adaptation of his series "My Three Sons" for New Line, with Michael Douglas producing and expected to star.

They've also written "The Whiz Kid" at Fox, as well as "Guam Goes to the Moon." The pair are repped by Jordan Bayer and Matt Leipzig at Original Artists.
