NEW YORK -- Julianna Margulies and Anjelica Huston are in negotiations to star in TNT's "The Mists of Avalon," a four-hour miniseries with a femme-centric take on the legend of King Arthur.
The co-production by TNT, Warner Bros. TV and Constantin Films is based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Marion Zimmer Bradley. "Avalon" tells the story of the legendary Camelot as seen through the eyes of the women who wielded power behind King Arthur's throne.
Huston is close to signing on as Viviane, the Lady of the Lake, who tries to preserve the pagan beliefs of Avalon. Margulies would portray Morgaine, Arthur's sister, who becomes Viviane's pawn in the quest for control of Camelot.
April in Prague
Production is set to begin in Prague in late April. Mini is slated to premiere on TNT in 2001.
The Wolper Organization's David L. Wolper and Mark Wolper ("L.A. Confidential," "Roots") will exec produce with Lisa Alexander and James Coburn ("Affliction"). Uli Edel (TNT's "Purgatory," "Last Exit to Brooklyn") will direct from a script by Gavin Scott, adapted from Zimmer Bradley's novel. Vilmos Zigmond ("Close Encounters of the Third Kind") will serve as director of photography, and James Acheson will be responsible for both costume and production design.
