It's McAnuff's 'Night'

'Bullwinkle,' 'Tommy' helmer to guide D'Works pic

Stage-turned-screen helmer Des McAnuff is in final talks to direct the DreamWorks laffer "Thursday Night."

McAnuff drew acclaim for having co-written and helmed "The Who's 'Tommy' " on Broadway. He also directed Universal's upcoming farce "The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle" and Fox Searchlight's 1998 pic "Cousin Bette."

"Thursday" will be produced by DreamWorks-based ImageMovers principals Robert Zemeckis, Steve Starkey and Jack Rapke.

Mike Binder ("Crossing the Bridge," "Indian Summer") wrote the script about a couple whose marriage has grown stale after several years. Hoping to inject new verve into their union, they agree to grant each other one night of debauchery -- unencumbered by marital vows -- without repercussions or recriminations. Instead, as the fateful night approaches, the two become angry and jealous. They find that their plans for the evening have gone awry and ultimately wind up happily in one another's arms.

McAnuff was repped by CAA; Binder was repped by UTA.
