CBS has greenlit production on "The Further Adventures," a fall 2000 drama pilot presentation that marks the series television debut of thesp Mary Stuart Masterson ("Benny & Joon").
Project is a co-production of 20th Century Fox Television, Jersey Television and CBS Prods. Steven Tolkin, co-scribe with Dean Koontz on the minis "Intensity" and "Mr. Murder," will write the pilot and serve as exec producer. Jersey's Danny DeVito, Michael Shamberg, Stacey Sher and John Landgraf are also on board as exec producers.
"The Further Adventures" will revolve around a young single mom (Masterson) who takes on a host of obstacles in order to give her two sons a healthy, happy upbringing. Skein's cast is expected to be multiethnic.
Script for "The Further Adventures" was developed inhouse by 20th and Jersey Television, which work together under the terms of an output deal inked in 1998. CBS then picked up the script and brought in Masterson -- who inked a holding deal with the Eye last fall -- to star.
In addition to the Koontz minis, Tolkin's other credits include writing and directing the telepic "Judgment Day: The Ellie Nesler Story."
While she made her bigscreen debut in 1975's "The Stepford Wives," Masterson first gained attention for her starring role in the 1987 John Hughes feature "Some Kind of Wonderful." Her other credits include "Book of Stars," "Chances Are," "Fried Green Tomatoes," "Married to It," "Dog Town," "Heaven's Prisoners," "Bed of Roses" and "Bad Girls."
Most recently, Masterson starred in the CBS telepic "Black and Blue." She also wrote and directed the upcoming feature "Grapefruit Moon."
