Award honors technical achievement in film

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences' board of governors has bestowed the Gordon E. Sawyer Award upon Roderick T. Ryan for career technical achievement in film.

The 40-year vet of Eastman Kodak, who served for many years as its engineering services' regional director, will pick up his Oscar statuette during the Scientific and Technical Awards Dinner March 4 at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel.

Ryan has been feted by the Academy before, snagging a medal of commendation in 1990 for outstanding service and, in 1981, a scientific and engineering award for designing a visual effects film processor.
