German news channel N-TV can count itself among the growing number of profit-making Teutonic webs, with the station recording a gain for the first time in 1999.
Managing director Kenneth Jautz put the station's upbeat results down to a busy news year and tighter cost controlling. Revenues were up by 61% to DM123.3 million ($65 million) while operating profits hit $13 million.
But recent developments in the market may affect the channel's future course: Station faces a new competitive situation with the launch of ProSieben's news channel N24.
N-TV, which was launched seven years ago, is owned 50% by the Time Warner-held CNN.
