Lions Gate Films has acquired the North American distribution rights to director-producer Robert Greenwald's Abbie Hoffman biopic, "Steal This Movie!"

Pic is skedded to be released in May.
"Steal This Movie!" charts the rise and fall of Abbie Hoffman as an activist, radical and fugitive, leading the audience through the maze of music, politics and angst of the late '60s and '70s. Pic chronicles Abbie and Anita Hoffman's involvement in the birth of "Yippie!", the trial of the Chicago Seven that followed their life under FBI scrutiny, and his years underground and resurfacing as "Barry Freed."
Under his Robert Greenwald Prods. banner, Greenwald has produced and/or directed 36 theatrical, cable and network films in the last 11 years.
Deal was negotiated by Lions Gates' Tom Ortenberg and Mark Urman, along with Cassian Elwes of the William Morris Agency and Tom Hansen of Hansen, Jacobson and Teller.
