BMG will serenade Sundance
Four-night concert series fetes mostly newcomers
The Sundance Film Festival Music Studio will feature 30-minute sets by 20 acts, most of them newcomers. Among veteran musicians scheduled to perform are Matthew Sweet, Janis Ian and Blues Traveler's John Popper.
Goal of the invitation-only event is to gain exposure for the new acts, while creating an "intimate concert where the independent film community can hear music from established artists as well as a new generation of singer-songwriters," according to BMG Entertainment VP of worldwide marketing Bill Wilson.
Among newer acts scheduled to perform are Sixpence None the Richer, Duncan Sheik, R&B singer-songwriter Donell Jones, Third Eye Blind and the Verve Pipe singer-guitarist Brian Vander Ark.
Series will close Jan. 26 with a tribute to hip-hop and R&B that will feature sets by Jones and Me'Shell Ndegeocello collaborator Malik Pendleton. Event's sponsors include the Sundance Channel.
