New Yorker celebrates 75 years
The venerable West L.A. blues club the Mint was the epicenter of a display of literary pyrotechnics from the pages of the New Yorker on Wednesday and Thursday. As part of its ongoing 75th anniversary festivities, which continue in New York on Feb. 14 with the presentation of the first New Yorker literary awards, six film and TV actors lent a theatrical tone to a selection of new fiction from the magazine.
More than 150 people filled the club on consecutive nights, including Camryn Manheim, Julian Sands, Harry Shearer, Julian Sands, Swoosie Kurtz and Tony Danza. In a nod to the industry, Dana Delaney read New Yorker music critic Alex Ross' short spoof, "Stanley Kubric Was My Friend, Too."
