All about 'Mother'
Almodovar pic takes 14 Goya nominations
Almodovar has often lost out at the Goyas, but "Mother" is a clear favorite to take best picture. This November, the Spanish Academy nominated the film as Spain's entry for the foreign-language Oscar.
As for Goya noms, "Mother" edged out Jose Luis Cuerda's civil war rites of passage tale "Butterfly's Tongue," which received 13. "Butterfly's" has been picked up for U.S. distribution by Miramax.
Carlos Saura's "Goya in Bordeaux," received 10 noms, nearly all in technical categories. Francisco Rabal heads bets, however, to take best actor for his performance as the Spanish painter in Saura's film.
The Goyas ceremony will take place for the first time in Barcelona on Jan. 29.
