Niemi tapped veep of music biz at Peacock

Exec to o'see net's growing tune division

Kim Niemi has been tapped veep of music business development, a newly created post, at NBC Enterprises.

Niemi will oversee the net's growing tune division, developing TV soundtracks, scoping out new artists, forging marketing partnerships and negotiating talent and label deals. She will report to NBC Enterprises VP Elisabeth Sami.

Recent NBC soundtracks include "The '60s," a 2-CD "Saturday Night Live" compilation jointly produced with DreamWorks Records and "The Temptations." On deck for NBC are albums associated with its teen programming block TNBC and the upcoming miniseries "The '70s."

'70s sounds

"Currently, we are producing 'The '70s,' and not only will we market a soundtrack of that generation but we are developing other music opportunities for direct response and retail tied to our television properties," said NBC Enterprises exec VP Jerry Petry. "Kim Niemi is the perfect person to take this business to the next level."

Previously, Niemi worked as veep of product coordination at Capitol Records. An 11-year vet of the company, Niemi obtained rights from film companies to release soundtracks, negotiated artist and label contributions to the albums, and spearheaded soundtrack release campaigns.
