'Fortune' ups helmer Corwin

Associate director upped as Carson retires

"Wheel of Fortune" will take a new spin now that associate director Mark Corwin has been named a director of the long-running Columbia TriStar/King World gamer.

Corwin will now report to executive producer Harry Friedman.

"Mark brings a wealth of experience and a wide range of talents to his new position," Friedman said. "I am delighted that he will help steer the show into the next millennium."

Corwin originally served as the gameshow's associate director from 1975 to 1989, when he left NBC to pursue other projects in television and indie features; he rejoined the program in 1995.

Corwin takes over the helm with the retirement of Dick Carson at the end of the 1998-99 season.

"While we will all certainly miss Dick Carson, this is a terrific opportunity to work with wonderfully creative people on a show that I love -- and a show loved by so many others," Corwin said.
