Editors to honor helmer Cameron

Director named filmmaker of the year

The American Cinema Editors named helmer James Cameron filmmaker of the year Thursday.

ACE's nod, recognizing Cameron for his significant contributions to the advancement of film, will be presented during the org's 50th annual Golden Eddie Awards Feb. 27 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Winner of the 1997 best director Oscar for "Titanic," Cameron is fine-tuning a new one-hour drama series, "Dark Angel," for 20th Century Fox Television.

He is also penning and producing a five-hour miniseries and an Imax project, both about sending humans to Mars. Cameron also has several films in development, but hasn't announced his next directorial effort.

Past ACE filmmakers of the year include Francis Ford Coppola, Clint Eastwood, Roger Corman, Roger Altman, John Frankenheimer, George Lucas, Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese.
