Pitch fest offered online

ShowBizData to bow site at Sundance

Bowing online at next month's Sundance Film Festival, ShowBizData's "The Worldwide Pitch Festival" aims to give upstart filmmakers a chance to land their first feature deals using the 'Net.

From Jan. 21-29, Hollywood hopefuls will be able to use ShowBizData.com to submit 1,000-word treatments for script and film ideas during the 'Net fest.

ShowBizData, the entertainment database firm, is hosting the free-for-all in association with indie production company Net Worth Prods.

A jury made up of biz execs and venture capitalists will single out the best pitch for a chance to win a $1 million production deal. Before judgment is passed, writer-producer Robert Kosberg will help fine-tune pitches for Park City, Utah, participants.

All Park City pitches will be taped in two to five minutes and Webcast the following day on ShowBizData.com., which is currently accepting fest applicants.

The festival is also set up to allow open-auction bidding for each pitch submitted, with interested parties submitting bids online. Net Worth Prods. will broker the deals. The pitches are protected by FirstUse.com.

ShowBizData will take a transactional fee for each pitch acquired.

"People outside of the Hollywood system will now have a chance to get movie ideas in front of industry insiders they generally have no access to," said ShowBizData prexy-CEO Oliver Eberle. "Hollywood is hungry for ideas. This gives anyone a voice."
