Helmer heist: Burglars see the light

Darabont's Tiffany reporduction lamps stolen

Directors are more likely to scream "I was robbed!" after the Academy Awards, not before them.

But Frank Darabont, helmer of Warner Bros.' current Tom Hanks starrer, "The Green Mile," is yelling it now, and he has a right to: His 1926 Spanish-style home in Los Feliz was burglarized Thursday, and, oddly, the perps were only interested in one thing.

"They stole my lamps!" explained the director, reached on vacation at his hotel in New York.

All Darabont's prized Tiffany reproduction lamps, including an antique iron streetlamp that weighs "seven goddamn tons," according to Darabont, were taken.

The helmer was having the home remodeled during his absence, and the break-in was discovered when workmen arrived. LAPD burglary squad detectives could not be reached for comment.
