Flextech inks deal with NTL

Partnership to develop television and interactive services

LONDON -- U.K. cable and satellite programmer Flextech has sealed a comprehensive carriage deal with cable operator NTL covering both analog and digital TV.

NTL will carry all of Flextech's five wholly owned channels, which include Living and Bravo, as well as the five joint-venture channels with the BBC, such as UK Gold. NTL already carried some of Flextech's channels in analog.

The two companies also intend to develop television and interactive services, likely including sports, for NTL's digital platform, which will launch in the first half of next year.

Steven Wagner, NTL's group managing director, said: "This deal represents an important alignment of interests between Flextech as a channel wholesaler and NTL as a multichannel retailer as we enter the digital era."

The deal comes as fellow Brit cabler Telewest is in negotiations to acquire Flextech, possibly before Christmas.
