Comedy series slated for fall 2000
Network has given a pilot commitment to the new project, a half-hour action comedy to be exec produced by Sonnenfeld and Josephson ("Fantasy Island," "Maximum Bob") via the duo's overall deal at Columbia TriStar Television, according to industry sources. The series is being developed for fall 2000.
Fox refuses to comment on its development slate.
A Saturday morning toon skein based on the adventures of the dim-witted superhero known as the Tick launched on the Fox Kids' Network in 1995. While the show developed a cult following, particularly with adults -- repeats even landed on Comedy Central -- the toon version was never a big hit and was axed after three seasons. Around three dozen segs were produced.
The character has lived on, however, through original comic books and active Internet-based fan clubs.
In addition to "Fantasy Island" and "Maximum Bob," Sonnenfeld and Josephson's TV efforts include midseason UPN actioner "Secret Agent Man." Sonnenfeld's extensive helming credits include "Wild Wild West," "Men in Black" and "Get Shorty."
CAA brokered the deal for the pilot.
