Warner wheels in Geary's 'Fortune'

Deal worth $1 million

NEW YORK -- In a preemptive deal worth just under $1 million, Warner Books has acquired tyro novelist Nancy Geary's murder story "Miss Fortune."

Set in an old-money Southampton country club, whodunit concerns the murder of a despised socialite.

"Fortune" is the first book from Geary, a Harvard Law grad and former assistant attorney general of Massachusetts.

Geary is repped by Nick Ellison. Warner Books publisher Jamie Raab handled the negotiations on behalf of the pubbery.
