The move strengthens the positions of fest president Jiri Bartoska and program director Eva Zaoralova.
Lawyers are said to be working out final details, which go into effect Dec. 1. The agreement would see Bartoska buy out Biermann's half stake in Film Service, the jointly-owned company which provides services to the festival.
"Rudolf did great work for the festival, but now it works the same every year," Bartoska told Daily Variety.
Zaoralova added, "After five years, we don't need a general manager anymore, but just a reliable organizer."
Elimination of the post leaves production manager Ivan Filus in the top management slot.
Bartoska and Zaoralova have been with Karlovy Vary since 1994 and Biermann, since 1995. The three revived the dying festival, turning it into the biggest in Central Europe.Sources say conflicting management styles arose between Bartoska and Biermann when they teamed to produce "All My Dear Ones," which bowed in Prague last month.
Biermann is expected to focus energies on his In Film production company.
