Film Society to fete Pacino
Tribute to be held April 25
Pacino began his career in the New York theater, picking up a Tony Award for his perf in the short-lived "Does the Tiger Wear a Necktie?" before moving into film. The New York-born actor has some legendary roles on his resume, including that of Michael Corleone in "The Godfather" trilogy. Among his other notable screen credits are "Dog Day Afternoon," "Serpico," " ... And Justice for All," "Scarface," "Glengarry Glen Ross," "Scent of a Woman," for which he won an acting Oscar, "Donnie Brasco" and "The Insider."
"Al Pacino is a deeply dedicated, authentic artist who never fails to stir the emotions, no matter what role he's playing," said the Film Society's chairman of the board Ira Resnick. "He is the ultimate antiheroic, seething, smoldering hero."
Pacino joins a list of past honorees that includes Mike Nichols, Martin Scorsese, Audrey Hepburn and Federico Fellini.
