NEW YORK -- BAMcinematek at the Brooklyn Academy of Music's Rose Cinemas will honor one of the borough's native sons in the first-ever Harvey Keitel film retrospective, set to run Thursday nights from Dec. 2-Jan. 27.

"A Collection of Keitel" will present nine films that highlight the Brooklynite's 30-year career as an "actor who really extends himself in working with lesser-known as well as established directors," in the words of BAMcinematek curator-at-large Adrienne Mancia.

"I think they're showing films by directors that I feel have made an impact on the community... films that offer something we can all share in," Keitel told Daily Variety. "That's what (cinema) was created for."

Among films slated to unspool are Martin Scorsese's "Mean Streets" (1973), Quentin Tarantino's "Pulp Fiction" (1994) and Jane Campion's "The Piano" (1993). For more information, call BAMcinematek at (718) 636-4157.
