Stratosphere gets 'Goat,' inks filmmakers to pact
Pic won Toronto fest top nod
The pic, which premiered at the Toronto Intl. Film Festival where it won the Festival's Discovery Award, is a comedy about two brothers who live together in Los Angeles. It was conceived by two real-life brothers, Derick and Steve Martini, who play the two leads. Derick wrote and produced along with Jordan.
Stratosphere's pact with the filmmakers gives Jordan and the Martini brothers a first-look deal with the company, calling on all three to write, produce, direct and act in their next films.
Richard Abramowitz, Stratosphere's senior exec veep, said: " 'Goat on Fire' is a terrific and very satisfying movie. We're delighted that the filmmakers recognized our enthusiasm and expertise and we're looking forward to bringing it to audiences all across the country this spring."
Stratosphere's Ronna Wallace, exec veep of production and acquisition, said: "Steven, Derick and Kevin have boundless imagination and talent, and working with them on their future productions will be a great pleasure. We're hoping to be able to announce a new film with them very shortly."
Producers' rep Jeff Dowd, attorney Hilary Bibicoff of Greenberg, Glusker, Field, Claman & Mactinger, and WMA negotiated on behalf of the filmmakers; Abramowitz and Wallace negotiated Stratosphere's end of the pact.
