India's Toonz pilots course to TV, film

Animation summit on sked

NEW DELHI -- Production studio Toonz Animation opened in August in Trivandrum, in the Indian state of Kerala.

Toonz Animation's prexy and CEO Bill Dennis said that during its first year of operation, the company plans to create four pilots for episodic television. In its third year, the studio hopes to produce its first feature film.

In early November, Toonz Animation will host South Asia's first animation summit, "A Week With the Masters."

A dozen of the world's top animation professionals are flying to Trivandrum to participate. A series of lectures, seminars, workshops and presentations focused on pre-production, storyboarding, character design and story development will keep visitors busy.

Headlining the event as keynote speaker is Rob Coleman of Industrial Light & Magic. He was animation director for "Star Wars: Episode I --The Phantom Menace." Academy Award-winning animators Maurice Noble and Derek Lamb are also speaking at the seminars.
