Rimes tunes up for pic bow

WB sets film on fast track

Teenage country star LeAnn Rimes is attached to star in the Warner Bros. father-daughter drama "Emily's Song," which would be her feature film acting debut.

A pet project for WB music prexy Gary LeMel, "Song" is being fast-tracked as the studio's most prominent music-to-film crossover attempt since the George Strait identity-crisis road movie "Pure Country" in 1992 and the 1997 biopic "Selena."

The studio, which had wanted to find a starring vehicle for Rimes for some time, is planning to go out to directors when the most recent draft by Shainee Gabel arrives, in about a month.

Originally written by Chet Holmes and recently in rewrite by Gabel, "Emily's" is pegged as a drama in the vein of "A Star Is Born," in which a man and his daughter, both musicians, are separated but brought back together through their music.

No word yet on who's on the list to play Rimes' father.

"Emily's" will be produced by Mike and Carroll Curb, the toppers at Rimes' WB-based label Curb Records, along with Jonathan Dana and Chet Holmes.

CAA is repping Rimes in the deal, while Eric Weissman of Weissman, Wolf and Greg Homer of Homer, Kirsch & Mitchell are the attorneys repping Dana and Holmes.
