M-Net nabs Fox's fare

South African pay TVer gets pix for next 10 years

JOHANNESBURG -- South African pay TV service M-Net, which boasts more than 1.1 million subscribers across Africa, has renewed its contract with 20th Century Fox, giving the channel exclusive broadcast access for the entire slate of Fox movies for the next 10 years.

The deal gives M-Net first screening rights for all feature films, a selection of the best TV movies and miniseries, and access to its library.

M-Net also secured the rights to TV skeins "Snoops," "Harsh Realm" and "Angel."

Managing director Lazarus Zim hailed the clinching of the contract.

"The fact that News Corp. and Fox agreed to such a significant and long-term relationship with M-Net indicates a strong recognition of the success with which M-Net continues to deliver pay television to the African continent," he said.
