Disney sets up shops for Downtown venue

Rainforest Cafe, HOB, AMC , others join $1.4 bil expansion

Disneyland execs unveiled Wednesday the major vendors setting up shop inside Downtown Disney, the 300,000-square foot retailing hub that is part of the resort's $1.4 billion planned expansion effort.

In signature Disney fanfare (fireworks accompanied by live music beside Downtown Disney's Anaheim construction site), resort exec VP Cynthia Harriss promised that the new tenants, which include House of Blues, AMC Theatres, a Patina restaurant and Rainforest Cafe, "will provide an eclectic mix of experiences not only for guests but also for local residents."

Disneyland's expansion, including the California Adventure theme park and the 750-room Grand California Hotel, will be completed in early 2001.

Timor Galen, senior VP-general manager of Walt Disney Imagineering, trumpeted that "(Downtown Disney) will be the only place where you can have a full night of entertainment."

Other confirmed retailers include New Orleans-based eatery Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen, New York's Naples Ristorante and Pizzeria, L.A.'s own La Brea Bakery, Latin restaurant Y Arriba! Y Arriba! and Disney-branded venues ESPN Zone and World of Disney.

"Disneyland's G-rated crowds won't deter the House of Blues site from signing the same A-level artists as our other locations," HOB prexy and CEO Greg Trojan said.
